A “better world” is what the BBC’s Technology and Media Unit has been calling for since the launch of the BBCs new Sphere series.
It is an attempt to find ways to change the way people interact with the internet, using technology and new media.
The aim is to turn the BBC into a “more positive world” and create a “world that is less hostile, more welcoming, more inclusive”.
In the new series, the BBC will take viewers on a journey around the world through three spheres – technology, home technology and communication technologies.
In the first, the focus will be on home technology – the BBC is hoping that its new series will help people to understand how technology is affecting their daily lives.
“This is a new, immersive, interactive programme that’s all about creating a more welcoming and inclusive world,” said John Birtles, the programme’s director.
“Technology is a key factor in how we move around the planet, and it’s also impacting on how we live and work in our homes.”
We’re trying to make a positive change in the way we interact with technology in this space, so that we can all feel more connected.
“In the second sphere, the new BBCs series will explore communication technology – an area of the internet that has been largely neglected by the BBC.”
It’s something that’s really important to us because it’s an area that’s largely unexplored by the media,” said Birtes.”
When people get into technology they tend to assume that there’s an easy way out, but they end up not knowing where to start.
“That’s why we want to really understand where people are in this world, and we think that’s a really important element in creating a better world.”
In addition to exploring home technology in the first two spheres, the series will also explore communication technologies in the third sphere.
“If we can understand how to better understand each other, we can get to the heart of what we’re trying, and why we’re going where we’re not going,” said Mark Rylance, the head of the digital media unit.
“There are things that are already out there that are just starting to be explored and it would be great to have the opportunity to bring these new technologies to life.”
